My selection of the inventions which had the most beneficial effects for human progress. Do you agree? Please note that discoveries (such as fire) and more abstract concepts (such as the theory of evolution or democracy) are not included – just specific inventions.
The 12 inventions listed in the video are:
12. The Wheel
11. Electricity Grids
10. Contraception
9. The Telephone
8. Music
7. Bread
6. The Printing Press
5. Vaccination
4. Sewerage
3. The Scientfic Method
2. Writing and the Alphabet
1. The Internet
Paul,
The telephone and internet are basically the same invention.
Up to about 1200AD population was limited ability to sustain population. so i would replace contraception with sustaining the population.
I would replace with navigation.

Personally, I don’t understand how you can have such list of “inventions which had the most beneficial effects for human progress” with nothing to say about transportation of any kind (accept “the wheel” as number 12).
Where is aviation? Wright Brothers?
Where is seamanship? Containers shipping?
Where is the car? Paved roads? The highway system? The truck? The tractor? Trains? Railway system?
Also, you have nothing about construction of any kind. Is the invention of a house that one may build and live in is less important than music or contraception?
And, what about artificial lighting?
Where is cooking?
Where is clothing?
Where is agriculture?
Where is artificial warming systems?
What about the water grid?
Best,
Ehud
I would add:
airplane
gun
Insightful compilation! What about drawing? The ability to make a mark, show a model or diagram in order to explore and develop options and then to communicate the idea to others was a key part of many of these inventions and in much of evolution itself. Think : cave drawings, sketchbooks of Leonardo Davinci, the art of Walt Disney
