Best TV Box Sets

Here are my choices for the top TV box sets to binge watch.

1. Breaking Bad.  The very best.  Bryan Cranston is brilliant as a high school chemistry teacher who starts a new career as a meth producer. Five seasons of compelling drama.
2. The Sopranos.  A gripping tale of an everyday Mafia family.  Tony Gandolfini stars as Tony Soprano, a complete villain, who you cannot help supporting.  Six fantastic seasons.
3. Succession.  A nasty media mogul (Brian Cox) and his dysfunctional family feature in this brilliantly written black comedy.
4. 24.  Kiefer Sutherland stars as rogue anti-terrorist agent Jack Bauer.  The first five seasons are absolute thrillers but the later ones cannot quite maintain the pace.
5. The Crown.  Surprisingly enjoyable drama about Queen Elizabeth II of England.  Based on true historical events.  Claire Foy is delightful as the young Queen in seasons 1 and 2.
6. The Bridge. Detectives from Denmark and Sweden join forces to catch a killer when a body is discovered on a bridge that connects the two countries.  Four seasons but the early ones are better. Sofia Helin is superb as Saga, a detective with Asperger’s.
7. The Killing.  Watch the original Danish series starring Sofie Grabol as super-cool detective Sarah Linden.  The first season is very dark and gripping.
8. Call my Agent. A light-hearted French comedy/drama about an agency for film stars.  Very enjoyable.
9. Line of Duty.  Riveting series about a police anti-corruption unit in London.
10. Homeland.  Worth watching just for Claire Danes brilliant portrayal of a CIA officer with bipolar disorder.  The eight seasons are of variable quality but there are many genuinely gripping scenes.
11. Fauda.  Brilliantly tense thriller about the Israeli/Palestinian conflict.
